In January 2020 fires ripped through the Shoalhaven LGA. Eighty percent of the bush was destroyed, decimating native flora and fauna and their habitats. Not to mention the destruction of the homes and livelihoods of the who were affected.
Many parts of our bush may not recover in my lifetime, it is still black and barren. But other parts of the bush are coming back to life.
Tianjara Falls in Morton National Park. NSW
I have visited and photographed the area on several occasions. My recent textile works have been inspired by the sadness of the severely charred land, the lines of the plants and later the awe inspiring recovery of the native trees and bushes.
A short film of my textiles in this landscape.
These textiles will be exhibited at the Embroidery Guild of NSW in JULY 2021
